Dear Members of the Trinity Community:

We are saddened to share the news of the death of The Rev. Dr. Peter Slater, who passed away on April 9, 2026.

The Rev. Dr. Peter Slater served as Dean of Divinity from 1985 to 1989, and was a lecturer in the Faculty of Divinity until his retirement in 1994.

After retirement, Peter remained an active scholar of Paul Tillich and Mikhail Bakhtin, and attended academic conferences and engaged in theological debate. He regularly expressed his appreciation for the Trinity Chapel, even after many years of being retired.

Peter was born in England, raised in Burma, Australia, and Canada, and held degrees in philosophy and theology from McGill, Cambridge, and Harvard universities. He was most recently Honorary Assistant at Christ Church Deer Park in Toronto.

We extend our condolences to The Rev. Dr. Peter Slater鈥檚 family and friends and the parish community he served. His funeral will take place at Christ Church Deer Park on Saturday, April 25 at 11 am.
